Gallery 2.2.4 Security Fix Release

Just in time for the holidays, Gallery 2.2.4 is now available for download. This release fixes critical security issues, no new features have been added. Due to the severity of these issues users of all previous Gallery 2 versions are strongly encouraged to upgrade to version 2.2.4 as soon as possible! All issues addressed in this release were discovered through an extensive internal security audit.

Since 2.2.4 is a security release, it shares the same installation requirements as 2.2.3. If you haven't upgraded to 2.2.x yet, please review the Gallery 2.2 release notes for highlights of changes and the requirements. Read on for more details and upgrade instructions.

PHPBB3 Integration Update

The newest version of the phpBB3 integration is now available, and has been designed around RC7. Props to jettyrat for all his work on this integration.

Paid Support Services Expanded

The paid support services offered here at NukedGallery.net have expanded. In reality, these "new" services have always been available, but not clearly advertised on the pricing schedule.

The "new" services include:

phpBB2 / phpBB3 installation
Custom software development (non-Gallery/phpNuke/phpBB2 related)

We hope these expanded services are useful to the community.

Integration Progress and Updates

You may have noticed from either the "Integration Updates" table above, or my signature image:

that the development of integrations has slowed somewhat. While the release of new updates has slowed, behind the scenes development has not.

The next version of Gallery, Gallery 2.3, will have some great new features available to integration developers. These features will allow integrations to:

Render any G2 module block in the integration
Over-ride G2 themes
and more, to be outlined later

Additionally, the phpBB3 integration has been kickstarted again. Look for an official release announcement here soon. The phpNuke release will be updated to take advantage of the new functionality in 2.3, and will be much more robust. Also, a complete rewrite of some sections of the integration will take place to resolve most of the user errors, and add new functionality (most ported from the phpBB2 integration). Stay tuned, lots of great things are on the way :)

Gallery 2.2.3 Security Fix Release

Gallery 2.2.3 is now available for download. This release adds no new features. It fixes critical application security bugs in the WebDAV and Reupload modules. If the WebDAV or Reupload modules are active in your Gallery we strongly recommend that you either disable them, upgrade them via Downloadable Plugins or perform a complete upgrade to version 2.2.3. Thanks go to Merrick Manalastas and Nicklous Roberts for reporting the issues to the Gallery Security team!

Gallery 2.2.3 is a small security upgrade from 2.2.2 and has the same requirements as 2.2.2. If you haven't upgraded to 2.2.x yet, please refer to the release announcement of Gallery 2.2 for highlights of changes and the requirements of the Gallery 2.2 release.

Gallery 1.5.7 Released!

Gallery 1.5.7 is now available for download. This release fixes one very minor security issue, fixes a few small bugs, and makes a significant amount of text more sensible. Even though this release has no major security fixes, we recommend that all users of Gallery 1.5.6 and earlier upgrade to this release to be as bug free and secure as possible. You can download 1.5.7 from the Gallery 1 download page on SourceForge. Upgrade instructions are available on our documentation site.

If you've contributed to translations for Gallery 1 in the past, or would be interested in helping out, our translations for Gallery 1 are fairly far behind! Please join the gallery-translations mailing list and send an introduction to get started.

What Does Gallery's Move to PHP5 Mean to You?

As you've seen here, Gallery will be moving to PHP 5 only in February of 2008. So what does that mean to the users of these integrations?

phpBB2, phpBB3, and PHPNuke are all compatible with PHP 5.x.
The integrations will be rewritten, if needed, to support PHP 5.x
It will be up to you, the users, to make sure that your web hosts have PHP 5.x available for you to use

In short, if your host supports it, you shouldn't have any problem with upgrading to the versions of Gallery 2 requiring PHP 5. I know that February sounds like a long way off, but it will be here before we know it.

Worry not, the integrations here will continue to evolve as the system requirements of Gallery, PHPNuke, and phpBB evolve.

Gallery 2 Requiring PHP 5 in February 2008

Several of the leading PHP projects and web hosting providers are working together to push for PHP 5 adoption at GoPHP5.org. Gallery is pleased to announce that we will be joining them and committing to requiring PHP 5.2 to use versions of Gallery 2 released after February 5th, 2008.

Gallery 2.3 is currently in the works and will continue to support PHP 4.3 and security fixes will continue to be applied to Gallery 2.3.x for at least six months after our first release requiring PHP 5.2. However, if you want to use the cool new features in later releases, you should make sure that your web host supports PHP 5.2 and encourage them to upgrade if they don't! We feel that requiring PHP 5 is important for Gallery and will allow us to develop a better product for you! Read on for more details.

Gallery 2.2.2 Stability Release

Gallery 2.2.2 is now available for download. As a minor stability release it adds no new features and includes bug fixes only.

Over 30 bugs have been fixed in this stability release. Some highlights are:

WebDAV with OS X / GNOME clients - Items not recognized as images
Broken fallback theme / theme reset functionality
Fatal PHP error in fetchWebPage() on too many redirects
Broken rewrite rule for embedded core.DownloadItem
Broken Upgrade Code for IBM DB2 / MS SQL Server

Gallery 1.5.6 is now available for download. This is primarily a bug fix release but also includes a couple of minor new features. Even though this release contains no security fixes, we recommend that all users of Gallery 1.5.5-pl1 and earlier upgrade to this release to be as bug free as possible.
