Gallery 3.0 Beta 1 is ready!

Gallery 3 is finally in beta! We've been hard at work over the past 8 months designing and building a worthy successor to the Gallery line and we are happy to say that we've got something that we think will make you very happy. The big news for this release is that from this point on, we will support upgrades to future releases! But don't take our word for it, download it now!

New packaging options

The Gallery project has moved all Gallery 3 development to Git and GitHub. This new version control system makes creating forks much easier for those of us that want to contribute to the project. That being said, would additional package options for the integration packages be useful to the community at large? Would you like to see one large package with PHPNuke or phpBB3 and Gallery 3 pre-modded and integrated? Or, would you rather see just the modded files for PHPNuke or phpBB3 included? Chime in at this forum post and let us know.

Gallery 3.0 Alpha 4 is ready!

It's here, the latest technology preview for Gallery 3. In the last 6 weeks we've been busy fixing bugs and adding features. The original plan called for us to have a beta release by now, but that's taking a little longer than expected so we'd like to share the Alpha 4 release with you now so that you can continue to play with the product and give us your feedback. ReCAPTCHA integrated into phpNuke

You'll notice that the standard phpNuke CAPTCHA display here has been replaced by reCAPTCHA, which you may have seen on other sites like Craigslist. For those of you not familiar with reCAPTCHA, it looks like this:

and is a great spambot fighter. Read this article on what reCAPTCHA is and how it works.

In order to fight the increased number of spambots on this site, I installed reCAPTCHA in place of the standard CAPTCHA during account registration. If you want this done on your site, submit a paid support request. The fee is a flat $25 for the installation.

Four weeks ago we released Gallery 3.0 Alpha 2 and we're happy to say that the response continues to be overwhelmingly positive. The community support and feedback about features that you'd like to see in the product has been outstanding, and you've helped us track down many issues large and small in the code. Gallery 2 on The Microsoft Web Platform

Microsoft is making some big announcements today, introducing The Microsoft Web Platform along with their Web Platform Installer, and the Web Application Gallery. What does this have to do with Gallery, an open-source PHP application?

Installing PHP applications on Microsoft IIS on Windows has always been a bit more complex than installing them on a LAMP server, and most Gallery developers do their work on Linux systems running Apache which makes it hard to focus on the Windows side of things. Microsoft's announcements today make things much simpler for people using Windows servers to use Gallery, so we're excited to be included as part of their launch event. Read on for the details.

Three weeks ago we released Gallery 3.0 Alpha 1 and we're happy to say that the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Many of you have given great feedback about the features that you'd like to see in the product and we've been hard at work trying to get the product ready for release. For those of you who used Alpha 1, you can see that there are still plenty of things that we need to improve. To reward you for your patience and give you a taste of what's to come, we're releasing Alpha 2 which has significant improvements!

Sneak Peek on Gallery 3.0 - First Technology Preview

After just three months of development, the first public release of Gallery 3.0 is here! Gallery 3.0 Alpha 1 is a technology preview release with most features in place and ready to take a test drive with you.
It was back in October at the Gallery Sprint when the Gallery crew set out to create a new Gallery application with simplicity in mind. Three months have passed, the new Gallery version is up and running and indeed much easier to use, customize and extend.

Those of you that have been paying attention know that something is going on! At the Gallery Sprint a few weeks ago, we made a lot of decisions and got the ball rolling on a complete rewrite which we've decided to call Gallery 3. Development of new features on Gallery 2 has been frozen, Gallery 1 is now a completely separate project "Jallery", and the Gallery team is now busy at work on Gallery 3. It's definitely not ready to run on your website yet but we've set the ambitious goal of having a 3.0 release by February 1, 2009 and are on track to meet that goal. By now, you've probably read the article regarding the end of the road of Gallery 1.x from the Gallery team, and how it is now forked to Jallery by Jens, the last G1 developer. For those of you out there that will be moving to Jallery (instead of G2 or G3), rest assured that it should continue to work in an embedded environment like PHPNuke with little to no modification.
