i have rc1 installed on my server but i want to upgrade to rc3 how do i do that with loose data? do i just upload all the files again and rebuild the galleries??? is there a way to do it keeping everything the way it is now????

As long as you haven't changed any of the core files - then simply upload RC3 on top of you existing install (don't forget to set permissions on your setup folder). All data is stored in your ALBUMS folder, this won't be touched by upgrading.
