First, I've gone through the integration process with phpBB Gold, and the latest Gallery2, and you've done a fantastic job! The integration is very well thought out, and largely works without issue.

My suggestion, after spending a couple days working on this, is that once you release the final integration module for phpBB Gold, it would be awesome if you provided a plain vanilla bundle of phpBB Gold/Latest Gallery2/integrated. That way, you'd spend less time answering questions, and folks could just download the bundle, run the installer for both Gallery/phpBB, execute the required additional SQL statements for the integration, and have a ready-to-go package.

As I mentioned, the integration is fantastic, so please consider this suggestion as a complement, and a way to make it accessible to more people.

Thanks for the compliments and the suggestion is an excellent one!

The problem for me is that the integration development and maintenance is basically a one-person operation. A package like you suggest would obviously require maintenance for every phpbb release, every gallery release and every integration code change. Then there is the issue of upgrades (which I've thought about for a while). It would be easier if folks could upgrade every time a new version of one or the other comes out rather than having to start from scratch every time since there is no upgrade mechanism available.

But, it all boils down to available time and required effort. The development and maintenance of just the integration itself is the result of many long hours at the computer and away from the family (just ask my wife Laughing ) and I simply don't have any more time to spend on it.

If someone was seriously interested in helping with the integration (even things like packaging, documentation, screenshots, instructions, etc), those sorts of things may be possible, but until then unfortunately, we are stuck with what I can put out. Smile

While I'm not a coder, I'd be very happy to help with things such as documentation, screenshots and that kind of thing. I've written technical documentation for years now as part of my profession so have a good track record with that kind of stuff.

If you really want to help, I'll be calling on you Wink Another kind soul is helping with testing a new release right now and it will be ready soon and will need documentation changes.

You don't happen to know anything phpbb3's new requirement for mods that they use modx now, do you? Basically all phpbb3 mods are supposed to be in modx format now. That's one I've been putting off for a while now due the extra effort to convert them. Smile

Yeah, I sure do want to help. I figure you've devoted so much time and effort to this integration package that any help I can give in return will repay you a little bit. Let me know when you want me to start on documentation and I'll jump on it. If you'd also like me to test the new release I'm happy to do that. (I don't mind blowing away the installations on my dev server and starting from scratch. So I'll certainly have a "clean slate" to work from.)

Let me check on the modx requirements and get the info on the format they require. I'll see what I can do with it then. I'll keep you posted on how it's going. I don't give my girlfriend enough reasons to get ticked at me as it is.

***Edit*** Just checked out the modx requirements and such on the phpBB site. Looks like I can more than handle it. It's basically XML so I'm good to go. I'll have to familiarize myself with the format they want but let me know if you want me to this for the integration.

Okay. Since my first installation literally got f00ked up, I had to do everything again. And why not make a Time Saver package for everyone else while I'm at it? I want a package like that, so I made one Wink (Doesn't save me any time thou Razz)

Everything is pre-configured based on a new and clean installation of phpbb3Gold and Gallery2 2.2 Double Double release.

CAUTION!!!
IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER MODS INSTALLED, THIS PACKAGE WILL PROBABLY DESTROY THEM!

Instructions and everything is included. Thou, you have to download the original phpbb3 Gallery2 Integration package to get the original README.html file. If there are any errors or something like that, tell me and I will try to sort them out Smile

I gotta hit the bed now, it's 05:40 AM here Razz Got work tomorrow Wink
