integration formatting trouble

I recently "inherited" a forum from a friend that he had running on his own local server. I took all of his files and databases and put it onto my online server, and after about 2 weeks of playing around with things I've gotten everything to (just about) work.

I'm having trouble getting the gallery integration to format correctly.

as you can see, there is no real formatting applied to anything, this is using the matrix theme for gallery2 btw. I tried using some of the other ones, but they are even worse.

and, if you look, parts of the borders are missing on the right and bottom..

if I try to change anything while using the integrated gallery, such as the theme, i get the following error:

i've tried clearing cache, cookies, double checking everything that I was supposed to do for the integration, which as far as I can tell is done perfectly. I even went as far as deleting just about everything, reinstalling gallery2, and then trying to reintegrate....

any ideas? this is getting kinda frustrating

i just looked at my integrated gallery from a guest perspective on IE, and I suppose it doesn't look too bad, but the column on the left has no formatting to it, all the links essentially just line up in a straight line, pushing the album thumbnails to the right. I would love to have some sort of a table or something put here, similar to what the gallery looks like not integrated
