Hello ~
Does this provide any illumination into my random block problem?
Thanks,
Sherri |

is the bdweb10636e your username? if so, that's the problem; since gallery needs the albums directory to be readable by the webserver username (usually apache or web or something along those lines).

No, that's not my user name...apparently it's the webserver's.
So do I substitute their user name for my own?

hmm...ok, can you post the code from the block-random.php file that corresponds to the five or six lines I posted earlier in this thread, along with the top couple of lines in the random_support.php file? I want to make sure that you've got everything set up right.

From random-support.php:
From block-random.php
I didn't make any changes, and the bdweb9982p is my user name, not the webserver's.
Thank you,

hmmm...so bdweb9982p is your username. are you sure that bdweb10636e is the webserver user (that's an unusual name for apache to run under)? I'm guessing that bdweb106336e is another user (did someone else initially create the albums?) and not the webserver. you might want to ask your host if they can change the owner of the albums directory to the webserver user and see if that clears things up.

The web host said it was a configuration error and it has been corrected. Now it shows that my user name is the owner of all files, folders, directories in my site. The random block still doesn't work, though. I called again and asked if they could change the album permissions to reflect that the web host is the owner, and they told me that they are running Apache and modsu exec (I have no idea what he was talking about but he said you should know) and therefore by default everything in our website shows that I am the owner.
Does that help or further muddle things?

yeah, after some digging, mod_suexec basically allows scripts to run under a different userid than the webserver (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/suexec.html). but i'm not sure how this is relevant in the land of directory permissions and such...you may want to ask for clarification from your host (i'm not doing a virtual host setup on my machine, so suexec is not an issue for me).
