However, I was expecting that activating the module would add a link to the gallery module on the main menu - but it didn't. It wasn't until I saw a similar post here that I was able to work out how to actually access gallery as a postnuke module, as opposed to stand-alone.
I understand I can add blocks which will help pull the content from the gallery into the postnuke site, and I guess this is the main way the interaction will work. I've seen the four blocks made available on this site, and will try them out.
My questions are, have I got the right understanding of this so far, and is there anything else to it? Are there any other useful websites ou there where I can now learn how to make best use of postnuke?

the blocks on this site are not for postnuke, they are for phpnuke.
re: integration of gallery with postnuke, you may need to do the "enable legacy module" bit in the admin page (not sure, it's been a loooong time since i've used postnuke).
