NEED HELP ASAP - activation emails not being sent

I have set up a site on a dedicated server running version 6.9 of phpnuke on a Linux box. I set everything up with no problems, themed and tweaked the site to my liking, everything is good, site is live and I started to advertise it but now the people coming to it CAN'T register!

When registering people aren't getting the activation emails and therefore can't login. The thing is, a few do work. I tested this myself with 5 different addresses nd only got 2 activation emails out of the 5. I'm a very green php coder so I don't even know where to start, but after spending so much time getting this site exactly where I want it I don't want to just give up. I've posted bug reports and help requests on other boards and can't get any answers.

Is there anyone who can help with this, or do I just scrap it and start all over again?

is this your own server (ie, do you have access to the mail logs?)? if so, see what's going on. also, sometimes if yours is a virtual domain, some email systems will drop or delete the messages. are the users who aren't receiving them from AOL, yahoo, hotmail, etc? (i had similiar issues w/ this site).
