How to get url rewrite working ?

I have gallery2.2.5 up and running and working 100% on my nuke site

I am now trying to get shorter url links using the built in plugin in gallery

However I can get it to write the .htaccess fine, and it is rewriting the urls, but the rewritten urls just take me to 404 pages

I haven't changed any of the default rules in the plugin

Example:

With plugin active the url is:
http://www.mysite.com/v/album411/

without the url is:
http://www.mysite.com/modules.php?name= ... emId=29307

obviously as you can see the album physical filesystem name is album411

Has anyone used the built in plugin and got it to work ?
I only want the albums and individual photos shortened Sad

embedded rewrite is largely a YMMV thing. some folks get it working, others don't. i think you need to prepend all your rewrites with "modules/gallery2/"...and even then I don't know if it will work 100%.
