If I were to make a distribution of PHPNuke (currently version 7.8 as the latest freely available version) and Gallery 2 bundled together with an installer, would you be interested in using it? Feel free to comment...

Hi Dari,
While this would be great for the first time user, soon the three packages would be out of sync. (I say three because: phpnuke, Gallery2, Gallery Integration). Since I customize each package, your single installer would be more work. Why? Let's say after the first install of the unified package, I customize a bunch of code. If one of the three packages gets updated and you release a new installer, I have to apply my hacks to all three packages again. Currently, I just update the single package and reapply my hacks. This type of hacking may be in the minority of total phpnuke users, but I think by the time someone is sophisticated enough to integrate Gallery2, they're into hacking their code! Just my 2¢ Michael |

Agreed, this is only targeted to the new user. However, any user will face the task up keeping the three items up to date, no matter how they started out.

Ok. I'll buy that, but if you want people to get the maximum amount of benefit, then you should try to get the official nuke and gallery sites to link/promote it. Otherwise, by the time people find their way to nukedgallery, they have probably already installed either nuke OR gallery, and are looking for integration.
At least, that's how I found you. I assume the reason you want to do this is because of support issues. I hate to keep playing Devil's Advocate, but instead of having fewer support problems, you may have more as newbies look to you for installation problems with both Gallery and Nuke. From the posts I have seen, by the time people get to your site, they have already successfully installed one or the other, or both packages and just need help with the integration. Geez, I hate to sound so negative on a Friday! Michael |

Yes I would absolute love that . . .because I am beginning webmaster specializing in the photography/modeling/entertainment fields. A pack like that would be especially helpful in setting up sites for image display !!!
Another help ful bundle would be one with zencart,os, or other cart !!! I am sure you could get top dollars for fully functional, glitch and headache free packages like these. I have a request for the second already !! A division of bundles for business with the add on of sentinal. I think you will become rich and famous. |

I'd use it for new installs if it was bundled with nothing later than 7.6. I believe the entire package will be problematic at best if you incorporate it into 7.7 and up. If you use phpnuke daily (as I do), you may have noticed that many of the larger and more popular phpnuke support sites no longer support versions beyond 7.6. If you were use a phpnuke version such as ravenuke 7.6 then people would not have to scour the net to find updates and security related patches either and they can sleep nights knowing their sites won't be buggy and/or hacked due to sloppy code. Just an IMHO. |

If you'd really like to add value, start with a modified 7.6 base such as RavenNuke, Nuke Evolution, etc. You don't have to install everything in those packages but those versions come with Nukesentinel, patches, and stuff already installed.
That way yours will come fully loaded. |

I wouldn't use it. I've already installed a nuke version. I would just hate to think that someday it would be too much work and you wouldn't want to support other versions of nuke. I've have seen this too much: "oh, you're having problems with that? Install our full version. It works fine." As long as it doesn't become the focus of gallery2, then I'm ok with it, but I wouldn't use it.
